Solar System Technology rich unit
scienceteks/objectives3.8D identify the planets in Earth's solar system and their position in relation to the Sun
3.3C represent the natural world using models such as volcanoes or Sun, Earth, and Moon system and identify their limitations, including size, properties, and materials. Essential QuestionsHow can we use models to represent the orbits of the Moon and the Earth?
What are the eight planets of our solar system and what is their position in relation to the Sun? How can we remember the order of the planets from the Sun? |
Mathteks/objectives3.13 Probability and statistics. The student solves problems by collecting, organizing, displaying, and interpreting sets of
data. 3.13A Collect, organize, record, and display data in pictographs and bar graphs where each picture or cell might represent more than one piece of data 3.13B Interpret information from pictographs and bar graphs Essential questionsWhat information did you gather from your graphs?
What do the graphs tell you about the length of a year for each planet in relation to their location in the solar system? Which planet has the longest day? The shortest day? Why do you think that is? |
Activities
1. Watch this video before starting your other activities.
2. Complete this Treasure Hunt
3. Create a Glog or a voki to summarize what you have learned so far.
4. Complete this graphing lesson and graph.

4. Complete this graphing lesson and graph.
Assessment
Once you have completed all of the activities you will create a presentation over the solar system using either prezi, movie maker or animoto to show what you have learned. You can be as creative as you want, use videos, pictures and any other forms of media that will make your presentation unique. Please look at the rubric to make sure you have all of the requirements for your final project.
